What counts as a business day?

A business day is any weekday that is not a Saturday or Sunday. This calculator excludes Saturdays and Sundays from every count. Public holidays are not excluded because they vary by country and region — you can manually subtract any holidays from the result.

Does this calculator exclude weekends automatically?

Yes. Both modes — Count Business Days and Add Business Days — automatically skip Saturdays and Sundays. You do not need to configure anything; weekend exclusion is always applied.

Can I subtract public holidays?

Not automatically, because public holidays differ by country, region, and year. However, you can use the result as a starting point and subtract the number of holidays that fall within your date range manually.

What is the difference between Count mode and Add mode?

Count mode tells you how many business days fall between two dates you specify. Add mode tells you which date falls a given number of business days after a start date. Use Count for measuring a past or future duration; use Add for calculating a deadline.

If I add 1 business day to a Friday, what date do I get?

You get the following Monday, because Saturday and Sunday are skipped. The Add Business Days mode always lands on a weekday regardless of when the count crosses a weekend.

Can I use this for legal or contractual deadlines?

Yes, with one caveat: many legal jurisdictions define 'business days' to exclude public holidays in addition to weekends. Use this tool to get the baseline weekday count, then subtract any applicable holidays based on your jurisdiction.

How accurate is the business day count?
